Subject: Accessing PRC files stored in Win apps on Palm CD

Some of the Palm OS software on one of the CDs that come with my
Tungsten E, such as the Real Player, is in Windows self-extracting EXE
archives.  I have only a Linux box.  Is there any way of accessing
those PRC files other than installing the software on someone else's
Windows machine?

I searched for Linux utilities for extracting those EXE archives, but
without success.  I thought that perhaps it might be easier to get the
PRC files from the Mac software CD included with the Tungsten E, but I
can't even mount it.

I can't access software I paid for, and my money is as good as that
paid by Windows users.  Quite frustrating.

	cabextract + pilot-xfer --install

	Palmsource/pa1mOne _only_ supports Windows.

Some Windows self-extracting files are in Zip format (did it say
self-extracting Zip file?) in which case you can just run 'unzip' to
extract the files.

Works really nice.  And InstallShield CAB files can be extracted with:

  SynCE - Unshield
  http://synce.sourceforge.net/synce/unshield.php

in the past, I've oftne used 'unzip some_win_installe.exe" (or unrar or
whatever the archiver was used, *if* such archiver was used)

it often helped me extract NIC drivers on my OS/2 system

try a few unarchivers on the exes just in case

I tried with unzip, but it didn't work.  But I have solved the problem
with the tool suggested by David.  Thanks anyway,

PalmSource only supports Windows.  palmOne wants Mac support.

David suggested cabextract:

which extracts files from most CAB archives.  For InstallShield CAB
archives you need Unshield:
